How are energy demands changing in the data centre?

We have a vivacious appetite for IT and we've seen a 600% increase in server shipments in the last ten years and an even larger growth in storage (around 69% in fact) coupled with the fact that server density has grown by about four times over that period too, this has all led to an enormous increase in energy consumption within data centres and a doubling in fact in data centre in the last five years with is a trend that's only going to continue.
